The Legal Bit
Terms and conditions
Last updated 1 October 2026
Plain English, as promised. These terms explain how we work together. Your engagement letter sets out the specific work we'll do for you, and if the two ever disagree, the engagement letter wins.
1. About us
fleeme is a trading name of [legal entity name], [registered address]. We are an AAT Professional Member and AAT Licensed Accountant, supervised for anti-money laundering and registered with the ICO.
2. Getting started
Sending an enquiry doesn't commit you to anything. If we're a good fit, we'll send you an engagement letter confirming the work, the price and what we need from you. Our working relationship starts when you accept it and we've completed our identity checks.
3. Our services
- Self Assessment: reviewing your income and expenses, calculating your tax, preparing your return and submitting it to HMRC.
- Making Tax Digital: keeping digital records, sending quarterly updates to HMRC and completing your year-end final declaration.
Anything outside this, like HMRC enquiries, prior year returns or limited company accounts, will be quoted separately before we start.
4. Fees and payment
- Self Assessment: £200 per tax return, for a standard return.
- Making Tax Digital: £45 per month.
Self Assessment fees are due before we submit your return. MTD fees are billed monthly in advance. If your circumstances are more complex than a standard return, we'll tell you the price before doing any extra work. Invoices are payable within 14 days.
5. What we need from you
- Complete and accurate records, sent through the client portal
- Your records by 31 December for a return due on 31 January, so we have time to do it properly
- Prompt replies to our questions
- To tell us about any changes, such as a new platform, a new vehicle or another source of income
You're legally responsible for your tax return. Before we submit it, we'll ask you to check and approve it.
6. What you can expect from us
- Work done with reasonable skill and care, in line with AAT professional standards
- Clear explanations of what you owe and why
- Submission on time, as long as we've had your records in time
- Your information kept confidential, as set out in our privacy policy
7. Penalties and liability
We're not responsible for HMRC penalties or interest caused by late, incomplete or inaccurate information from you. Where we've made a mistake, we'll put it right at no cost. Our total liability to you is limited to [liability cap], except where the law doesn't allow us to limit it.
8. Anti-money laundering
The law requires us to verify your identity before we start work and to report any suspicion of money laundering. We can't tell you if we've made a report.
9. Cancelling
You have 14 days from accepting your engagement letter to cancel without giving a reason. If you've asked us to start work in that time, we'll charge for work already done. After that, you can end Self Assessment work at any time and pay for work completed. MTD support can be cancelled with 30 days' notice.
We may end our work if fees go unpaid, records aren't provided, or we can no longer act for professional reasons. We'll always give you notice and hand over your records.
10. Complaints
If something's not right, tell us at [email address] and we'll respond within 14 days. If you're still unhappy, you can contact the Association of Accounting Technicians at aat.org.uk.
11. The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
